A History of Grand Forks County Prairie Partners
Buffalo Rock
In the fall of 2000, a dozen or so people from the Red River Valley gathered around a table covered with a collection of maps and
satellite photos. They'd come with a concern for the future of the prairie grasslands of Grand Forks County, a broad swath of grass generally extending north from N.D. State Highway 15. Over time, a group called the Grand Forks County Prairie Partners was born. The membership of Grand Forks County Prairie Partners has contributed to local discussions about the history of prairie grasslands in the county, offered engaging presentations about local prairie to the public, and spoken up on behalf of prairie when it has been threatened with destruction.
