Ed Bry
As a young man growing up near Manvel, Ed Bry knew well the saline grasslands that we cherish today. One tract of the prairie-chicken management area is named for him. Bry was an avid photographer who served as editor of North Dakota Outdoors from 1962-1986. His work graced numerous magazines and journals, books such as "Breeding Birds of North Dakota", and is now on display in the Ed Bry Photo Gallery in the office of North Dakota Game and Fish in Bismarck. Ed Bry regarded his photography as a tool to teach conservation. He once wrote: "Certainly it is man's privilege to enjoy God's wild creatures or to ignore them. But it is my hope that these photos and few words will help someone to notice the wildlife species we have about us and to appreciate them for what they are. Perhaps we may even implant a desire that man needs today, that is, the urge to ensure that all wildlife has a place where it can live and thrive."
