Malmberg Family
Surrounded by fields of sugar beets, sunflowers, soybeans,
and small grains, Malmberg Prairie Scientific and Natural Area is a prairie oasis in the intensively cropped Red River Valley. It is located south of
Fisher in Polk County, Minnesota. The pioneering Malmberg family is said to
have set aside 80 acres of tallgrass prairie so that their descendants could experience the original prairie. This tract is perhaps the best example we have of the original tallgrass prairie nourished by the deep fertile soils on the floor of glacial Lake Agassiz.
